Summer Camp

The last four days at Summer Camp Music Festival were a blast! Met with old friends I only see there and made many, many new life long friends. It's the weekend I look forward to all year. The highlights this year were meeting some of the String Cheese boys, The moe. sets, our morning charging sessions with new friends in the VIP tent and Goooose.     I'm already looking forward to next year's toned down version. As long as I can be at Three Sisters Park on Memorial Day weekend, I'll be okay!      I'll be working for the next couple of weeks and then I'll spend some time in Chicago, Kentucky and Ohio before heading west.    Much love ❤️

Casey's

I've heard people rant and rave about Casey's pizza in every small town I've ever been in. Today I gave it a shot. It's not terrible for a $3 slice, but being a Chicago girl, I'm a bit picky.     I've been spending my days working and prepping for Summer Camp. 2 more days until we're there!  Much love ❤️

Home sweet home

I spent 24 hours in my home town. I definitely did not miss the traffic. As I'm deciding where to eventually have my home base at the end of the summer, I'm realizing that the every day stress of traffic is not worth it. The fact that I've spent hours of my life just sitting, waiting, wishing that people would get the funk out of the way...  I got to spend some time with my kiddo which was the whole reason for my visit. We went out for tacos and ice cream and stopped to see my brother for his birthday  I had more tacos for dinner with some really good friends and then partied a bit with some more of my favorites. Over all it was a fantastic 24 hours. Now back to the country I go.  Much love ❤️

312 on a slow day

It's been a super slow day for work today so I've been doing some exploring. First I went and cleared my head for a bit in nature. That always helps bring me some peace and it was a beautiful day for it.      Wetlands Preserve in Freeport, IL After that I went and saw the site of the 1858 Lincoln / Douglas debate. I'm a sucker for historical sites.  All that exploring and waiting for any kind of work, had me hungry. For lunch I found a place called 312 Beef and Sausage and was super excited that I may have found a piece of Chicago out here. I immediately stopped for a beef and it honestly wasn't worth the stop. I've been spoiled by food in Chicago my whole life. They tried, they really tried but it was disappointing. Tomorrow I'm back in Dubuque, IA Going to work, do laundry and explore some of the Mississippi River.  Finished Firefly Lane on Netflix last night and had a good cry, my goodness. Highly recommend if you haven'

Baby Wrigley

I stopped by the little Cubs field in Freeport, IL today. Considering that Wrigley is one is my happy places, I was pretty unimpressed. But it was still cute.  I worked near there today and came back to my plaything bringing me weed. That was a nice surprise and much appreciated. He's off to some edm thing in Madison tonight and my exciting plans include trying to get my TV to turn on.  My face isn't throbbing today so I avoided the dentist (although I shouldn't). It still hurts but it's nothing I can't put up with.  Much love ❤️

State of Confusion

I was in 4 states in 4 days, not including my state of confusion. Worked all day yesterday and an old friend I hadn't seen in awhile made the drive out here and we partied until the sun came up.  I had a crown fall out awhile back and while flossing the other night I took a bit of the tooth with it and now my face has been throbbing for 2 days. Today consisted of researching how much extra strength Tylenol I could take without doing permanent damage and napping. Tomorrow I'll head to the dentist in town which I heard is pretty cheap.  Met a guy last night that I've decided will be my play thing while I'm here. We laughed and talked until we could no longer stay awake.  It's supposed to rain all weekend. I have more hiking and exploring for next week so I'll probably be pretty quiet here until then.  Much love ❤️

What day is it?

I woke up in Boston way too early, worked all day in Chicago, spent about 45 minutes in my home town with my folks and then drove back to the country. I am exhausted.  I heard there are s'mores and fire for later.  I'm going to try to stay awake 🤞 Much love ❤️

Boston

What a day! CT dropped me off in Boston around 2pm and I saw as much as I possibly could in 5 hours, on foot. I'm sore. Hit as many of the historical spots as possible.     Enjoyed a beer at Cheers I met some super amazing people Friday that I know will be life long friends. I met them for dinner and we took the ferry back to their neck of the woods. Took the longest hottest shower I could and now it's time to crash.     Pham My uber to the airport will be here at 4am and I'll be back in Chicago by 8am CST. A few more weeks of busting my butt and then it will be time for Summer Camp, my birthday and the next leg of my adventure.  All the pics from the day are about to be on my Instagram (@safe_as_I_can_be) Much love ❤️

Rage. Rest. Repeat.

Landed in Boston super late on Friday and took an uber to some friends. We partied until the Sun came up and didn't really rest. We were supposed to go to the Lotus show last night but it was 2 hours away and we recognized that after the night we had it wouldn't be wise to make that drive. So we went and hung out with more people and stayed up too late again.  Finally got a good night's sleep. Got woken up to coffee in a really cool cup and now we're going to find breakfast and go hiking. I'm in Connecticut and it's beautiful. Can't wait to explore more. Tomorrow I'll be back exploring Boston and then I fly out super early on Tuesday morning.  Much love ❤️

Boston Bound

After about 3 hours of sleep (due to having too much fun) and a full day of working I'm about to fall asleep on a plane to Boston. Probably not going to get a whole lot of sleep tonight either 😉 Much love ❤️

Sorry mom, I'm drunk

When I decided to start documenting my summer, I vowed to not do it while drinking. But here we are... I got into Chicago around 11am today. It was nice to make a bunch of money, it was definitely needed. I'm staying with my favorite Brit and met him at the bar across from his place around 5pm. We ate, drank and laughed entirely too much.  Brisket tacos with goat cheese I asked them to please put on the Cubs game and was told that the Ricketts are making it very difficult for bars to show the games so I had to settle for all the Boston sports and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Red Sox were winning when I left, Celtics won and Vegas was up by one, incase you needed to know.  The Brit and I laughed and laughed. My favorite things that came out of his mouth tonight were, "Jenn, you are irresistibly attracted to poor people" and "Keep making terrible decisions, I enjoy it" With friends like this... lol. He's been in a very long term relationsh

As safe as I can be

Back at Old Irving  Last week when I was making my rounds, saying my "see you laters" and giving all the hugs, I stopped at a bar my friend works at for a drink. When I was leaving he said, "Be safe this summer! Or at least, as safe as Jenn can be!" And that is how the name of this blog came about, for those of you have asked. Had a super busy day today. Hated Chicago traffic more today than I have in awhile. One more day of it then on to the next destination.  Going to go grab a beer and a bite. Thought I would write a quick something first, while completely sober. 🤣 Much love ❤️

Field of Dreams

Today I went to the set of Field of dreams. It was a pretty cool experience. I researched all of it online and knew I was going to make it there at some point while out here and then realized it was only 15 minutes away from where I was, so off I went! It is free to walk the field (according to their website) but when I got there the sign said "$20 suggested donation" I had $5 cash on me. The adorable elderly gentleman that came out of his booth told me that was fine, told me everything he knew about the place, making me laugh quite a bit and gave me a bumper sticker anyway. Also talked to my good friend down in Kentucky for three hours today. I'll be getting to see him and his lovely fiancé at the end of June. I mentioned that I was blogging my summer and asked if I should include all the trouble I get into knowing my mother is reading. His answer was "She knows you and that's what we all want to read anyway!" That gave me a good lau

Whole Lotta Nothin

Coming from such a large city, there is a whole lotta nothin out here. Today I spent the day exploring and figuring out where to make money. I ended up in Dubuque Iowa for most of the day. The population there is around 60,000 vs the 1,500 that is Stockton, IL so I thought that would be a better place to work. It turned out okay!  It's almost an hour from where I'm staying but there is no stop and go traffic so it feels like much less. I was day dreaming at a traffic light today and no one even honked. Much less aggression about things. The radio stations are mostly country and Jesus talk so I've been going through my Phish CDs. I paid $3.44 for a gallon of gas today and thought that was wonderful.  I also had lunch at Taco John's because an Iowa friend said I should. It was okay. Got to see an ex employee go off on the manager and they messed up my food. Probably won't go back.  I stopped and saw President Grant's house on my way back. (Pics on my I
